The research lead to designing a new app, Be Positive. To help people develop positive thoughts by following the personalized positivity plan. The goal of app is to help people overcome anxiety, depression and suicidal tendencies.

Following series of ideas and low-fi paper sketches the mid fidelity design was created. After user testing this design was turned into high fidelity. The idea is to keep the UI and UX clean, simple, easy and uncluttered so users find this as pleasant user experience.

  1. Call Buddy

INSIGHT:  People dealing with anxiety need immediate help.

FEATURE: Be Positive app's sign-up process is easy; it asks the user about two buddy's who will be the user's confidant (counselor or friend). They can reach out by clicking on the Buddy icon in the footer. This encourages users to talk to someone when they feel pessimistic and depressed.

2 Positivity Score

INSIGHT:
Listening to your thoughts can help you understand your anxiety issues better.

FEATURE: Be Positive allows user to record their thoughts and the software analysis thoughts and offers a positivity score, ideal range 40-100, below 40 means high-risk case.

Based on the score, personalize the positivity plan

3 Positivity Plan

INSIGHT:  People need a success plan that keeps them motivated towards positive thoughts.

FEATURE: Personal Positivity plan offers therapy, personal coaching with a therapist in person or online. With the help of guided coaching, self-care, and peer support. Maria is now on a path towards feeling better and finding practices that are right for her.

Reward Positive Behavior

INSIGHT:  Positive thoughts should be encouraged by setting goals.

FEATURE: Positivity Check  Based on the thoughts recorded, app generates the daily positivity score and reward points. When the user hits the milestone earning 2000, 5000, 7000 points, they get rewarded with a gift card of their choice.

NEXT STEPS

Design the Apple Watch wireframes of Be Positive. Adding a new feature to monitor heart rate and pulse and detect anxiety level, call user's buddy right away, diverting thoughts in a positive direction.

Integrate with my Fitness Pal app to utilize users' complete health data to prepare an even better positivity plan.

Enable advanced features where users and friends listen to each other's thoughts and provide support and story-sharing features.

CONCLUSION

It began with an idea about encouraging people to talk about their anxiety and find immediate help. There is a feeling of accomplishment as this app can actually help save people's lives. The app has the power to bring a change and making an impact.
